Valentine’s Day is all about love, so I thought I’d share my love story. For those of you who don’t want to be in love or simply don’t care I totally get it! I actually thought I would spend my life single, so you can imagine how surprised I was when Will showed up! So without further ado here’s our love story:
Everything changed when I went on a school field trip to the Museum of Science and Industry in 2012 and met Will. The second our mutual friend introduced us I knew he was the one. Will was a tall brunette with gorgeous blue eyes and had a very sweet smile. Most of all he was kind, and even though I was in a crowded hallway full of students I felt like we were walking alone involved in our own conversation. Eventually we split up and later that day I saw him with his then-girlfriend. Even though my heart was telling me something else, I dismissed the whole interaction as a pleasant conversation and at the very least I had a fun trip! Here’s a low quality photo from that day, me being my sassy self!
As a bit of time passed I still saw Will in the hallway at school, and eventually without his ex. Again, I was pretty determined to remain independent, but he was pretty cute and eventually started throwing cheesy pick up lines out there like “Hey, I haven’t seen you in this hallway before!” with a funny grin. I couldn’t help but laugh and be flattered, even though I wasn’t going to do anything about it.
It was near the end of the semester when I was walking out of the ACT test that Will asked for my number, so I thought what the heck he’s been so cute and gave it to him. After that he asked if I would show up to his water polo match, so I did and he made a goal and pointed to me in the crowd afterwards. I was definitely embarrassed but it was really sweet! (I don’t have any water polo photos but here’s a pic of us going to a dance in 2014:)
After all that, we finally set up our first date on my 16th birthday. Will bought a bouquet of two roses and some baby’s breath for me, and met my family before we went to get ice cream. We walked around a park for a bit and eventually had our first kiss. For his 17th birthday I pressed the roses and framed them, one for myself and one for Will. 4 years and 9 months later we’re still going strong! The crazy part about all this is you never know where life will take you or who you’ll end up with. I feel very lucky that I met Will so early in life and regardless of if we end up together I know he’ll always be my first great love.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
